Paxil Use Increases Risk of Preeclampsia by More Than 80%

April 11, 2012 By Attorneys.us

Preeclampsia is pregnancy-induced hypertension. It is a very dangerous condition for both the mother and the unborn baby. A recent study found that taking antidepressants during pregnancy significantly increases the risk of developing preeclampsia, and that Paxil use increases the risk more than other antidepressant drugs. If you have been harmed by Paxil, a Paxil attorney can help.

The Canadian study, published in March 22, 2012 issue of the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, found that women who took antidepressants had a 50% greater chance of developing preeclampsia. Those who took serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) had a 60% increased risk, and those who took the SSRI Paxil had an 81% greater risk.

Preeclampsia can be fatal in both the mother and the baby. Preeclampsia death in the mother is rare in developed countries, but still occurs. Babies of women with preeclampsia often have to be delivered early, for their own safety and to protect the mother, putting them at risk for all of the problems that can come with premature birth in addition to the dangers of preeclampsia itself.

If you or someone you love has been injured by Paxil, please call our Paxil attorney at 1-877-LOSS-RECOVER (567-7732) or submit an online questionnaire. The initial consultation with a Paxil attorney is free of charge, and if we agree to handle your case, in most cases we will work on a contingency fee basis, which means we get paid for our services only if there is a monetary recovery of funds. In many cases, a personal injury lawsuit must be filed before an applicable expiration date, known as a statute of limitations. Please call right away to ensure that you do not waive your right to possible compensation.
